WINNER OF THE NCAA SINGLES AND DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIPS AND A THREE TIME ALL AMERICAN AT SOUTHERN CAL.

DOMINATED PLAY IN THE EARLY 1970’S WITH VICTORIES AT WIMDLEDON AND THE U.S. OPEN, AND CONSECUTIVE NUMBER ONE WORLDWIDE RANKINGS.

HIS OUTSTANDING DOUBLES PLAY ESTABLISHED HIM AS PERHAPS THE FINEST ALL AROUND PLAYER OF HIS TIME. HIS DOUBLES TITLES INCLUDE 4 US OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS AND VIRTUALLY ALL OF THE OTHER MAJOR INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.

HIS HEROIC PERFORMANCE IN THE 1972 DAVIS CUP COMPETITION IN ROMANIA HELPED ENSURE THE UNITED STATES TEAM’S SUCCESSFUL DEFENSE OF THE CUP.

AN ACCOMPLISHED SPEAKER WHO HAS WORKED IN SEVERAL BROADCASTING ASSIGNMENTS. HE IS EQUALLY PROFICIENT WITH THE PEN AND IS THE AUTHOR OF A NUMBER OF INSTRUCTIONAL BOOKS, AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY, AND IS CURRENTTLY PLAYING EDITOR FOR TENNIS MAGAZINE.

HAS SPENT COUNTLESS HOURS ON BEHALF OF CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS AROUND THE WORLD.

HAD ASSISTED THE SOUTH CAROLINA TENNIS ASSOCIATION WITH JUNIOR TENNIS PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE STATE.

SERVED AS HONORARY CHAIRMAN OF JUNIOR DAVIS CUP MATCHES PLAYED BETWEEN South Carolina, North Carolina, GEORGIA, AND TENNESSEE.

ACTIVE IN THE FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHELETES.

PRESENTLY COMPETING IN THE SENIOR EVENTS ON THE PRO TOUR WHERE HIS TITLES INCLUDE THE 1985 WIMBLEDON 35’S DINGLES.

TOURING PRO FOR SEA PINES PLANTATION ON HILTON HEAD ISLAND WHERE HE LIVES WITH HIS WIFE MARGIE AND THEIT THREE CHILDREN.

CABLE NEWS NETWORK CALLS HIM “ONE OF THE MOST RESPECTED PROFESSIONALS IN THE GAME. SMITH’S IS A STORY OF DIGNITY AND DEDICATION. HE IS A RARE CHAMPION.”

NAMED BY THE USTA AS NATIONAL COACH UNDER THE PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM IN 1988.
