Dutch Fork Wins 25th Chick-fil-A Hall of Fame Classic
in Belton October 8 - 9, 2011

2011 Hall of Fame Classic - Group PhotoDutch Fork won 5 of 7 flights to earn 34 points and win the 25th Chick-fil-A Hall of Fame Classic high school girls tennis tournament in Belton October 8 - 9, 2011. T. L. Hanna and Greenville each earned 22 points to tie for second place.

Dutch Fork was also selected for the team sportsmanship award. The last team to win both the tournament championship and the sportsmanship awards was Bishop England in 2000. Clinton won the team sportsmanship award at last year's tournament.

#1 Singles:  Ivey Welborn (T. L. Hanna) defeated Christina Merchant (Greenville) 6-0, 6-3.

#2 Singles

#2 Singles:  Lauren Joch (Dutch Fork) defeated Sally Nguyen (Irmo) 6-2, 6-3.

#3 Singles

#3 Singles:  Caroline Sloop of Dutch Fork defeated Abby Cooper (Irmo) 6-2,6-2.

#4 Singles

#4 Singles:  Ali Savage (Dutch Fork) defeated Caty Brown (J. L. Mann) 6-2, 6-3.

#5 Singles

#5 Singles:  Layla Asghari (Dutch Fork) defeated Megan Parke (Greenville) 6-1, 6-1.

 

#1 Doubles

#1 Doubles: Ivey Welborn/Anna Rice (T. L. Hanna) defeated Emily Erickson/Abigail Gregory (J. L. Mann) 1-6, 6-2, 10-5.

#2 Doubles

#2 Doubles:Bailey Shealy/Anna Maria Gardiner (Dutch Fork) defeated McLeod Stephenson/Anna Hamer (Greenville) 6-0, 6-1.

Click for Larger View.Tournament Chairman Rex Maynard said: "Dutch Fork took control of this year's tournament early, and then won 7 out of 8 matches on the last day to win easily. They finished the weekend with a 18-3 record, one of the best team performances ever in the Hall of Fame Classic. We had great competition, with four teams finishing within two points of Click for Larger View.each other. All the girls played well, and I hope they benefited from the competitive matches. I expect to see all these teams do well in the playoffs in a few weeks."

The 2-day tournament is hosted by the Belton Tennis Association and sponsored by Chick-fil-A, and each year includes many of the top teams in the state. Maynard is the tournament chairman and is assisted by Tournament Referee Maxine LeCroy and Tournament Director Mark Smith.
